christmas lights

Wed, 12/09/2009

Dear SEPTA,

As much as I love the colors of Christmas, all the reds and greens, you seem to be decorating your train status boards with an awful lot of red. Seriously, get your act together. It hasn’t even snowed this year…

Love,
Tired commuters everywhere…

que?

Comcast is really starting to annoy me with all of the Spanish language direct mail I have been receiving. I guess this is surname profiling? Should I fill them in that ‘Brito’ is Portuguese?I really want to know what got me onto this list. I sure as hell never pressed ‘2′ while calling them. The funny thing is, I still get tons of ads in English as well. Isn’t this all just a big waste of money?

The ad I received depicts a remote control as part of the family. (A remote control whose buttons are written in English.) For only &.95 a month I can get all the rock en espanol I want…

what’s in a name

Sat, 06/09/2009

Doing a Google search for “Christopher Brito” results in some interesting hits that surprise me… Honestly, I never thought I shared a name with so many people. I guess Brito is kind of like Smith in the Portuguese world. Searching on Facebook, Linked In and now Twitter show even more people with the name Christopher Brito. It’s kind of crazy and weird. Makes you feel a little more generic.

I wonder if they also get mad when they sign up at a website and realize that the username cbrito is already taken. Or if they try and register a domain name and it’s unavailable. Sorry! :)

From hence forth I will make sure to use my middle initial as a key differentiator. I’ll also be clear here. Everything non-professional, like my Facebook and Twitter, are private so you have to know me to find me.

financial question

Sun, 01/09/2009

I just got a 1099-INT statement from Chase (formerly Washington Mutual) showing the interest my online CD accounts earned in 2008.

Now, I opened these accounts in October of 2008 with a 12 month maturity. Which means, while my account is in-fact accruing interest, I won’t be able to touch that money until October of 2009. Which to me means that it isn’t income yet. This is further evidenced by the fact that if I were to close the accounts I would lose all accrued interest and pay fees.

So. My question is why the hell did they send me a 1099? I am not going to report this as income on my 2008 return.
