new gym

I haven’t been indoor rock climbing since college, so when I got a call today asking if I wanted to check out a climbing gym in Oaks, PA I figured I’d check it out.

My main rational for not checking out the local climbing gym, Go Vertical, earlier was the $65 belaying lesson fee. I know how to belay and tie knots, I just needed a refresher :). So we resolved to be honest with this gym in Oaks. “We’ve climbed before, we know how to tie the knots, we are just a little rusty.” They guy there had no problems. He brings us over, we do the quick belay test and he basically reminds everyone how to do it properly. It only took a little more prodding about how to do it correctly and we were set! No crazy beginners fee. Woot!

So now that we are all set and have passed the test there, we can walk in any time and buy a day-pass. Hopefully because of the skills refresher I can walk into Go Vertical sometime soon and just take the test there. It will save the 30 minute drive out to Oaks, and the gym will be much bigger.

I didn’t do too badly for my first climb in two years. By the end of the day I was on the 5.8 class climbs. My fingers, arms, abs and legs are currently a bit too sore.

Nothing like coming back from the doctors office feeling worse than when you entered.

I had my Executive Health Exam today, which is a fancy way of saying my routine physical. This is the first physical I’ve had in about four years, and boy have things changed since going to my pediatric doctor.  Let’s just say that I feel I should have at least gotten dinner and a movie out of this appointment…

I was very worried going into the physical. Lately I’ve found out that both parents have high blood pressure, and an informal test at a pharmacy (I was playing on one of those blood pressure machines with some friends) I had a pressure of about 138/90. Which is quite high. During the exam my pressure was 118/74 which I think puts me in the very save zone.  ::Whew::

macbook air

I’ve become moderately obsessed with finding the song that plays in the new macbook air commercial.

I think I’ve succeeded:

my name is brito

and I have an eating disorder.

I happened to find myself near 9th and Passayunk this afternoon and for no reason what so ever, I decided it was a good idea to grab a cheesesteak. Now mind you, I wasn’t hungry, I wasn’t drawn in my the tourist attraction, I just felt the desire to eat one… solely because it was there.

Philadelphia really is the fattest city…

sms

From a lovely little article I read today on why it costs so much to send a text message:

What exactly justifies making SMS messages sixty one million times more expensive than ISP data and 200x more expensive than TCP/USPS? How come technology, communication, and infrastructure is getting cheaper while the costs of SMS messages are increasing exponentially? My theory: SMS messages are transfered over air made of solid gold.
